Well, I'm finally back in the groove of classroom 2.0. I'm working with the South Central Kansas Writing Project yet again this year and adapting to changes. We have decided to consolidate our technology applications and will be using a ning network instead of a separate site for wikis, blogs and photos. This way I will become more familiar with the technology and be more of a proponent of its use in the classroom.

I am also working for a short time for our Extended School Year program through June 20th. This is an opportunity for students who earned a 50-59% in class but made considerable effort in their class a way to make up a few assignmetns and pass. Kids can spend a few hours and make up their credit from 5-10% by completing self selected assignments. Some of my students will finish the first day while some will take the entire time. I just supervise, clarify and grade. This allows me some time to work on planning for next year's classes and any SCKWP work I need to finish.

In addition, after receiving the all clear on colon cancer, I have rededicated myself to weight loss, joining weight watchers online. I've lost 5 pounds and will be attempting the addition of physical activity this week. They expect daily activity, so this will be THE challenge of the summer.

I will be spending the last week of June/first week of July with my student government kids as they are working a fireworks stand for a fundraiser. This will be interesting, i only hope some parents step forward to help out with supervision because I live 30 miles from the site.

Why am I doing all of this? My daughter's choir has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall during spring break 2009 and I want to accompany her. It's $2000 per person, so any money I make this summer goes towards that trip.

Ending for now. More later.
