I think, therefore I Ning, blog, twitter ... (Cogito ergo Ning?)

I am still getting used to Ning...quite bizarre considering I just started my own for Victorian Teacher-Librarians at http://victib.ning.com. However, when it comes to the read/write web I've learned the best way to master the different tools is to jump in and have a go! There are a lot of educators out there, worldwide, who are passionate about education and very excited to be using these tools with their students, or learning how to use them. What's more, they are happy to share and help others.

So far my 'jumping in and having a go' has been free. I have learned a lot (free professional development), downloaded some great tools (free software), talked with people from around the world (free travel?) and started four blogs to become a 'published' author. However, this could change...I'm hearing a lot about the flip video and I'm going to search ebay soon to see if I want to buy one. Also, I've enjoyed my visits to Jokaydia on Second Life so much that I'm investigating the possibility of renting some property...I hope this isn't the beginning of an expensive hobby!

I like your perspective here. It's all upbeat: "jumping in and having a go", "it's free!", etc.... I hope to use this simple "philosophy" to motivate staff to explore a bit more. Thanks!

Thanks Andrew, I've tried to adopt a similar approach to motivate the teachers at my school too. Also, I'm trying not to underestimate the 'fear' factor. I've learned that while It is fun for me it is very scary for others!
