The History of Careers in America: Infographic

The History of Careers in America

From shifts in the economy to advances in technology, the career choices of Americans have changed dramatically since the 1900s. Since the days when “farmer” was a popular occupation, to the present when 50 percent of the top 20 fastest growing jobs are in healthcare, career choices have certainly shifted over…

Wanted: Science Teacher

The add on the service unit website reads "ESU #13 is taking applications for a certified science instructor for the VALTS and NEVA programs, which are housed on the campus of WNCC in Scottsbluff." Very simple and basic and does not even come close to describing this incredibly unique position! This position is awesome! If you know me you have probably heard me say that I have one of the most fantastic jobs in education. Since this position is in an alternative school in rural Nebraska I…

Bill Gates vs Steve Jobs: Who’s the Better Public Speaker?

I suppose I expect a lot from the CEO’s of large corporations (especially successful and innovative ones). I expect them to be very intelligent, great evangelists for their products and along with that great public speakers. Just for fun I thought I would examine the public speaking skills of two of the most well known tech CEOs, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates  (however Gates is no longer the CEO of Microsoft).

To be fair, I have uploaded product launches that each CEO has done in the…

One experiences a lot of things in life but in a nutshell we can all categorize our memories in school life, college life and the various jobs. Whatever be the case some of the most cherished memories of anyone’s life remain the college days. The times that form a naïve student into a personality, the times that forces one to react, decide and choose for…

Drop In: Connect the Dots

Don't settle, do what you enjoy. This was to me the basis for Steve Job's commencement speech of 05. As you look at two of the brightest technology leaders (Jobs/Gates) of our time, a common thread comes about. They both worked really hard and they both were true to their passion. At some point, the probably got a lucky break, but for the most part, they did not conform to the status quo. They both went about their success by leaving college early. They both were diligent in their passion and… Continue

Shift Happens again..?

I've seen versions of this over time and obviously what we see are the basic threads of rapid information growth, our place in the global technology world, and a sense of urgency to jump on board. Meanwhile jobs are being lost, more houses in foreclosure, companies are shutting down, bailouts are being requested by leading banks, car companies and the like. With more information and more access and more "connectedness," where are these new jobs? I'm excited about the promise of 2049, but what… Continue
