When the stuffed crust pizza first came out in my area, like everybody else we tried it. We found out quickly that the pizza makers had became so fascinated with the stuffed crust that they had forgotten the rest of the pizza. It was a lousy pizza.
That is what many makers of "educational games" do. They get fascinated with what they are trying to teach and forget about the "game." Games above all should be fun. On the other side teachers and parents ignore games that… Continue

In class today we watched Ken Robinson's "Bring on the Revolution" on
TED in which he calls for a revolution in education. He suggests that we need not reform a broken, outmoded system, but rather we must fundamentally change what we do to/with kids. The metaphor Robinson uses is a shift from an industrial model (factory-like, all kids learn the same things at the same age levels, in preparation for 'university') and move to an agricultural model, where…

If educators plan to transform their schools into institutions that

A Classroom’s Hierarchy Of Needs I just got home after a morning of observing two classrooms. One was wonderful, a place that all students would long to be in. One was dreadful, a place that students would only just barely tolerate and where one student actually said, when asked to make a metaphor using the word school, “School is jail”.
What made them different? On the face of it they were both…

Tim Stahmer offers his take on the state of education in his recent blog
Not Asking the Right Question. It's a quick read, but it does imply that educators and policy makers need to sit down and look at what we want 21st century education to look like and then develop methods to get there.

According to the
Columbus Dispatch, some Democratic legislators in state of Ohio are pursuing mandatory e-textbooks for college students. The hope is that it will reduce the cost of textbooks for college students by as much as 50%. Should save a lot of trees and money on chiropractor bills, as well.

Inspiration is the inner encouraging power that can push man to the limit of their abilities as they pursue their own goal in life. It is the inner basis of reach the desired achievements. We all know that a man with inspiration either from external or internal, could lead to the passion of a great character. If you were to make a graph of the appropriate closeness of a teacher to a student, it would be inversely proportionate to the academic abilities of the student. Therefore, the more academically capable the student, the more relational distance to their teacher. This could be partially due to the number of students in general education classes, versus a resource room versus a student in a one-on-one situation.
Consider how much a teacher knows about a student's family of home life. The…
