For the last eleven years I have worked as an elementary school teacher. At the end of this last school year I decided to take some time off to figure out where exactly I want to go with my career. A few years ago I attended the Georgia Educational Technology convention and was blown away by all there was to offer students. Having worked in districts whose idea of using technology in the classroom was the use of smartboards as projectors, left myself and my colleagues very much in the dark when it came to inventive ways of implementing technology into our curriculums. I am now debating whether or not to go back to school one last time to obtain my specialist degree in instructional technology. Teachers are given a hard time when it comes to technology saying that they are too set in their ways to learn new tricks, but thats not it at all. Teachers lack the knowledge and training needed to truly use technology effectively. I would love to be able to create ongoing professional development projects that would assist teachers in using technology in their classrooms.
