I grew up in a small town in Indiana. I enjoyed playing basketball, football, and baseball as an outlet to get out energy and motivation for school. I earned my degree in elementary education from Ball State and moved to North Carolina after graduation. I spent several years as a first and second grade teacher at Underwood Gifted and Talented Magnet in Raleigh. I found nothing more rewarding then helping students learn to love reading.
During my time at the University of North Carolina completing my Masters of School Administration degree I fell in love with running. In the past several years I have completed 2 marathons and 7 half marathons. I also recently began training for triathlons and competed in my first sprint triathlon this year.
As part of my graduate program I had the opportunity to do a yearlong Administrative Internship at A.B. Combs Leadership Magnet in Raleigh. After the completion of my internship in 2006 I was hired to be the Assistant Principal of Olive Chapel Elementary in Apex, NC. During this time I supported our team through the conversion from a traditional calendar elementary school to a four track year round calendar school. Three years ago a teacher, a parent volunteer and I decided to share our love of running with our third, fourth, and fifth grade students by beginning the Landlubbers Running Club. In August of 2011 I became the assistant principal at Brassfield Elementary in Raleigh.
My wife Courtney and I live in North Raleigh with our 20 month old son Braxton and are eagerly awaiting our new baby girl’s arrival in November. I now share my passion for running and sports with Braxton as he comes along with me for runs in his jogging stroller.
