Fellow Concerned Educator:

HIDDEN IN THE SHADOW OF TRUTH (already receiving the major distinctions of “Editor’s Choice” and “Rising Star” from editorial and quality review boards) was written neither to absolve nor to indict black males for their current social condition. It was written, rather, to provide a comprehensive and accurate explanation as to why so many black males seem to be led by the nose toward the prison doors. Why is it that black juveniles consistently outpace their white, Hispanic, and Asian counterparts by a margin of more than 2 to 1 in the commission of murders, aggravated assaults, weapons law violations, forcible rapes, robberies, and motor vehicle thefts? Why is it that they gravitate more toward gangs and guns than toward life and liberty?

Even as a black male educator and a fifteen-year veteran of the public school system (Warwick High School in Newport News, Virginia), I too have been perplexed and befuddled by the attitudes and behaviors of too many of my black male students. In fact, it is their unprovoked aggressiveness, their unrelenting negative outlook, their lack of investment in their own education, and their glorification of prison life that has propelled me to research and write this book initially for my own edification. I finally fully understand what many incorrectly presume black males should already know: why our black boys choose failure, criminality, prison, and death.

My singular goal is now to inform those who may be ill-informed and hopefully lead the misled out of the darkness of propaganda, lies, and half-truths, making all of us (regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, or background) better parents, advocates, teachers, role models, mentors, and citizens. Our black boys cannot be helped if the ailment is not understood. But, I cannot even attempt to effectively inform others without your help. Irrespective of your race or ethnic group, you are an integral part of the process of healing and rehabilitating a whole generation of black youths infected with a self-destructive mentality. This is not a “black” problem. This is an “American” problem. I need your help!

After you have purchased your copy of HIDDEN IN THE SHADOW OF TRUTH, and if you find it as informative as many already have, please spread the word to friends, relatives, and co-workers because no one can help anyone, on a large scale, without the help of others. HIDDEN IN THE SHADOW OF TRUTH can be ordered through any major bookseller or purchased online through www.barnesandnoble.com, www.amazon.com, or by contacting iUniverse at www.iuniverse.com or calling 1-800-AUTHORS (1-800-288-4677). Thank you very much for all that you do in helping to cut the ties that bind and enslave our black boys.
