About Me: Merryn has most recently been Project Leader for Arts Online, the New Zealand Ministry of Education’s key arts education portal. She has also been active in the development and direction of distance arts e-learning programmes through the Virtual Learning Network, and a mentor for the VPLD programme in 2010 and 2011. Through 2010—2011 Merryn has been a lead writer for the Ministry of Education’s Senior Secondary Arts Teaching and Learning Guides.

Merryn established and directed the National Centre for Research in Music Education at the University of Canterbury, and negotiated an MOU with UNESCO for this centre to serve as an international Arts Education Observatory carrying out a range of research projects and presenting at national and international conferences. In 2010, she worked for the South Korean Government to develop an international Arts Research portal.

Previously, Merryn has been a National Coordinator for the Arts (Ministry of Education), NEMP advisory group member, NZ Film Archive advisory group member, NZ Music Commission advisory group member, Schools Advisor, Senior Lecturer in teacher education, ERO officer, NZQA expert panellist, standards writer and workshop presenter, and Ministry of Education Curriculum developer and materials writer for the NZC (2007).
