About Me
I'm Lauren!

I graduated from Lyman Hall High School in 2008 and went on to attend the University of Connecticut. I was admitted into the NEAG School of Education and I am working towards becoming a secondary math teacher! I graduated in 2012 and am now pursuing my Master's in education.

One of my most memorable experiences related to teaching is when I recognized how my 8th grade math teacher enticed not only myself but almost everyone in the class, leading to a obvious enjoy the subject! After that experience, I became more aware of how important a great teacher is when making a difference in student's lives. I would like to think that my passion for the students and the subject can come together and create as memorable and influential of an experience as I had in 8th grade. I cannot wait to show generations of students how exciting and important math can be!

On my spare time, I enjoy traveling, cooking, and scrap-booking, sewing. I also enjoy going to the gym, doing pilates, and dancing!

That's all about me; if you have questions, just ask! :)

Volunteer and Work Experience

I try my best to be very involved here at UConn, my volunteer activities include:

Connecticut Education Association: I became a member of this club during my first semester here at UConn. It has provided great opportunities for me to experience the world of education and keep up to date with current happenings in education.

National Education Association: This membership began at the same time as my involvement in CEA. I find that I am becoming increasingly knowledgeable about information and current events in classrooms around the United States.

Mansfield Middle School Tutoring: I work one-on-one with 7th and 8th grade students on varying subjects, helping them with completing assignments as well as organization and study techniques. This experience is great for my future in education because I hope to teach middle school students in a few years and every experience that I gain makes me more qualified to determine which learning styles and techniques are proven efficient at different points in my career.

CAPTure Success: During these experiences, I work one-on-one with high school students who are having difficulty properly preparing for the CAPT. I teach them more simple ways to approach math and English questions that require higher-order thinking skills. Several occasions require the instruction of multiple studying techniques, seeing as how some may not work for everyone.

Big Brothers Big Sisters: This volunteer program has been making me smile for a full year now! I go to an urban middle school once a week to meet with a 6th and 7th grade student, and work with them on their homework and any leisure activity to provide them with a role model for the future.

Campus Big Buddies: I mentor 3rd and 4th graders on a weekly basis and provide them with an environment that is comforting and welcoming

When I am back in Wallingford, I work as a personal tutor. I tutor in varied levels of mathematics as well as high school English.

I truly believe that each of these experiences will benefit myself as well as my future students inside the classroom and out.
