I am a writer and teacher. For the last five years I have directed The Telling Room, a nonprofit community writing center in Portland, Maine. I have taught at public and private secondary schools and universities in California, Vermont, Maine, and New York. My first collection of poems, Death of a Ventriloquist, was chosen by Lisa Russ Spaar for the 2011 Vassar Miller Prize and will be published in 2012. My poems have appeared in magazines including Guernica, The New Republic, and Poetry Northwest, and in the anthologies Satellite Convulsions: Poems from Tin House and From the Fishouse: An Anthology of Poems that Sing, Rhyme, Resound, Syncopate, Alliterate, and Just Plain Sound Great.
