- Marva McClean asserts the rights of diverse children to an education that embraces their cultural heritage as a vital and valid curriculum resource. Central to her research agenda is an exploration of diasporic spaces as classroom pedagogy rooted in critical literacy and reflexive practice as an activist approach to tackle the complex issue of teaching students in urban settings where issues of language, culture, power, and politics are central to the advocacy for social justice and equity. She is the author of Disrupting the Hegemonic Construction of Student Achievement: Diasporic Spaces, in the International Handbook of Social Justice & Equity, Springer Publishing, 2013.
