About Me
I'm a teacher and a teacher of teachers; I design learning experiences and am increasingly moving into Web 2.0 as one of the tools that can be very useful in situations when there are a bunch of people needing/wanting to learn something. Right now I do all this as a volunteer at a start-up non-profit that will offer information and guidance to people who are 50+. We hope to generate a (perhaps small) group of volunteers who want to write for the website as a way of helping with the mission, and a larger group of volunteers who want to offer various other kinds of help. I want to set up their training and their group/team consciousness through interactions on Ning,

It is important to me that each of these volunteers feels recognized and rewarded for his/her contributions; it will be useful if they come to feel like a team helping and supporting each other, working together on common goals; and there is a very specific need to teach blog writing, or if you will, "short-entry writing for information sharing on the web."

I think I'll be using Ning to create the team-learning situation described above.

So. (10 months months later) All my visions of community-building came to nothing -- due, I have to say, to what felt like management's active lack of interest in building a volunteer corps or even an organizational community.

I have been a Crew Leader for the US Census for a couple of months. That's been both fun amd satsifying, but the task is drawing to its natural close and I will again be at loose ends, looking for work that feeds my spirit.
