My goal is to increase literacy – functional, critical, content and contextual, among others – in our community. I hope to achieve this through teaching, tutoring, and writing.
To this end, I obtained both English language arts and social science single-subject teaching credentials in 2010 in California, where I also tutor in a public library literacy program for adults and youth. In my early career, I wrote for newspapers. I went on to work as a producer, writer and editor for Internet firms. Raised outside Washington, D.C., I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from Clark University.
Currently, I am seeking teaching opportunities, and especially within schools emphasizing writing skills, open to helping students make connections among humanities disciplines, and to engaging them in environmental awareness.
Recently, I: finished an article/chapter about online professional development for the Harvard Education Letter/Harvard Education Publishing Group.
I am also supervising tutoring sessions for PortalReading - PortalReading connects elementary and high school students to improve the elementary student's reading performance using Reading Horizons/Discover Intensive Phonics software and workbooks.
