Who is library media specialist Daniel Alston? Understanding who I am requires introduction to my family. I have been joyously married to my wife, Lois Alston, four years. She is also an educator and continues to ignite passion for life and learning into my life daily. I have also been blessed my graceful daughter Anya Christina Alston and newborn son Maxwell Cole Alston.
My educational background includes attendance at Rutgers University, Rutgers College, in New Brunswick, NJ. I majored in Journalism and Mass Media Studies, minored in English: Cinema Studies, and played vinyl records as a disc jockey for two years on WRSU 88.7 FM. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the School of Communication and Library Sciences at Rutgers.
I have completed six years of teaching. My teaching experience spans sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classes in language arts, social studies, science, and mathematics. I have also worked as a product specialist for Apple.
I received my Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning, with a concentration in K-12 Technology Integration from Nova Southeastern University in June 2009. I am concurrently completing my Media Specialist certification at Rutgers University Professional Development Studies online and a Master of Education Leadership in Learning (Principalship) – Leadership of Digital Learning at Abilene Christian University online.
My commitment to teaching is a joy in learning from students and their experiences. I strive to provide students with a concrete foundation in awareness, honesty, and responsibility in education for their ultimate success in life. I believe that when we all learn to value each other and what we can offer in our service, we will create “presence of presents.”
