Thanks for the invite. I'll pass this along to my marketing class (Grades 10-12) and also to my colleagues as well. I think that this will be a great project for the students
Jack,
I look into our district policies about his. I'm intrigued and I think the students will be also. I'll let you know. Thanks for the invitation. :D

Jack,
This looks interesting, but my only concern is that when students view the samples posted, they are also given additional youtube videos to look at that appear at the bottom of the screen when the video of the vocab word ends, and these videos are not appropriate for me to have pop up as choices. I don't know if there is anything you can do to control that, but if there is, then we might be interested. Valerie
Thanks for the invite. Can you give me more details on the project. Then I will forward it to my College Counseling and English teachers to see about getting them to participate.
Jack,
My faculty was excited, but the general YouTube videos that show up after viewing the vocab word videos are really inappropriate. Undulate brings up lots of stuff we can't send our students to.
Hey Jack,
I'm really not too concerned about the things that other people are posting below...all high school students know about the obnoxious related videos that show up and I rarely find that students compulsively click these videos in the manner that so many adults fear...that is, they have much better discipline and internal filters than we give them credit for...
I already shared this with our film class and will share it directly with our students via direct email distribution list.
Thanks for creating this authentic and motivating project for students to contribute to (and then sharing with edu-nerds like myself).
I am SO sorry that I am just now responding. I would like to have more information, but this sounds like a great opportunity. What all would it entail?
Jack, Thanks for leaving the note about the SAT vocab/video contest. I've spread the word with my students and the English department - not sure if any of them have followed through yet. I'll restart the conversation and see if I can stir up the energy around the idea. I'll also repost to the ACTEM board - the computer teachers of Maine. It was on there once a few weeks ago, but always good to remind them the opportunity is still there. I enjoyed the conversation on TTT the other week - you guys sound innovative and fun.
Jack, I understand that you have no control over the general You Tube content that shows up. Have you considered using TeacherTube to host the videos? It doesn't have the cool factor, but it might avoid some of the problems.
Jack, Thanks for the invite. I'll share the project site with my students. I'm hoping they'll be excited about creating a video for the contest. YouTube's blocked in my district, but we'll try using SchoolTube. As suggested by Susan, TeacherTube would be great!
I have sent the information to the High School folks. (I am in an elementary school this year.) Of course, the idea could very easily be modified for elementary and middle school students where vocabulary is emphasized as well.
I like the idea of extending the idea to show 2 "definitions" of a selected term - one fake and one real - this would add a bit of ... confusion ... yes probably, but also an element of making the audience work a bit to see if they can ascertain the correct meaning. The answer of course would be given at the end.
This looks like a cool project. I'll post a link on the PBS Teachers Facebook fan page. I'll also reach out to the producers of NOW, because they recently created some SAT lesson plans. Perhaps they'll be interested in partnering. I'll let you know when I hear back from them.
Hey Jack, I'll have to talk to some people. I'm teaching Seniors, so they've already taken the SAT, but I'll ask them if they are interested. I'll see if anyone else my department is interested, thanks.
Sorry, Jack. I teach middle school and don't know any high school English teachers. I'll forward your message to a Biology teacher I know, and, hopefully, she'll be able to help.
Hey Jack,
I have checked out the website. I think it is nice. I'm not exactly sure who to pass this on to. I will pass it on to my personal learning network for starters. Is this something MIT does every year?
My English teacher let her kids know about the site, even though she is not planning on requiring creating a video as an assignment. One of her students decided to submit a video on his own. I hope more will follow after she shows the video to her class.
Hi Jack,
I am on sabbatical this year but will send the link to my colleagues. The sophomores at Natick High School do a project called visual vocab, which is a real hit. Maybe the juniors will take visual to video!
