Thanks, no problem using it as an example, more the merrier, we look at our site stats every week to see where in the world people are checking out our site. My class are year 7/8 with mixed ability. The collaborative writing is great for my reluctant writers because everyone jumps in and helps edit and add more. I started off getting them to name their work, but they get more work done anonymously (I keep track of their personal efforts through friends activity). I started the site in term two so it has really grown.
Novel study sounds like a great application. Have you tried setting up templates yet? I find them useful for getting students started and following a consistent format.
How about yourself Erin, what age are your students?
Skyping sounds good. We tried something last week for 3D modelling. I put them into groups and they built a model using lego. They had to create a top, side and front view of the model then write instructions on how to build it. I sent them into different rooms and they communicated to help a different team build their model and vice versa.
I'm not so sure they'd want to do the lego again but I'm sure we could think of something that would get them working together.
We have a TokBox account as well which is embedded on our wiki.Works like skype but you video message as well.

Keen to start networking with NZ teachers who use the force.
Have a look at my classes wiki, we're getting into collaborative writing and activities with epal schools.
