About Me
I have been in education for over 30 years. Each of those years has brought me new ideas and challenges. I have taught at Iran Dokht, a girls' high school in Iran, Dept. of Defense schools in Germany, and public schools in Ohio and Maine. I believe that technology should be a staple, not a privilege. Through my work, I am always striving to bring my passions, children and technology, together for the betterment of both. I love what I do.

    Are you going to NECC?
  • Sharon Betts

Absolutely, I hope to spend time in the Open Source area, too. I have a presentation on using Web 2.0 tools for professional development.
  • Alice Mercer

I think we both look nice in green!
  • Alice Mercer

I did one project on PBWiki with my kids, and I keep my family stuff up there with my DH. I like the interface.
  • Alice Barr

    Hey Sharon:

Great to see you too.... I am going to NECC, I was just looking at your NECC presentation wiki! It's a great idea!
  • Sharon Betts

Hi Alice - yea! NECC - hope to see you there. I need to find some time to work on that wiki. Wouldn't it be funny to meet in Atlanta when we never seem to be able to cross paths here in ME? Give us some of your great integration ideas here in Classroom 2.0

Hey, Sharon, thanks for the invite! I am a Maine-iac (also known as a "summer person" (I am only truly real in the summer, I guess)). Originally from New England, I am now in the middle of ... scenic, landlocked, rural PA during the school year. I enjoyed the obvious energy of your webblog and posts.
  • Sharon Betts

Sorry I didn't answer you soon, Sue R.
I have been really busy with my other life (my leonbergers).
It is finally beautiful here today - the Northeaster is gone. Nice to hear from you.
  • Kathy Schrock

    Sharon,

Hope to see you at NECC!

I am in you session right now and I knew I knew you from somewhere. I hope we can talk. I am starting a PD program at DuBois and love your model.

    I'll be there

    Hello,
I am going to push for a cohort of 10 (1 from each team in the middle school) to be my focus. I will offer training, but I will really focus on the 10. Question: Is it prudent to start dealing with the question of e-portfolios (personal spaces) now...or is that something that will happen later. (It will take a few month to even get the group orgainized, I think)

Also. How did you do it? What kinds of things did you start your first group on?

    My mind is swimming.
    :) Ken

    Sharon,
Actually I wondered if you would be willing to particpate a little. I am setting up one network with two groups. One ele, one middle school. If you would like to join us it would be great to way to show them how networking gives you access beyond DuBois.

PM me at kpruitt@dasd.k12.pa.us and I will send you the link.

Who knows maybe we could get you down here for the summer workshops I am pushing for in 08.
  • Sharon Betts

Finally gave up and made a twitter account. Wonder if I will ever actually check it?

You're welcome for the friend invite--long ago though it was. And thank you for reminding me not to apologize for working through things ... my best ideas do come as I write my way to them. I'm just hoping in these new spaces (or new to me anyway) folks are forgiving of the errant letter or misspelled word : )
  • Ken Pruitt

    Sharon,
We do not use Moodle. We do have access to blackboard but it is only used by cyberschool.

Let me know if you need me to make any kind of announcement to the folks on my network. Participation is dying off and I am not sure a post would get noticed at this point.

Thanks, Sharon, for the invite to your wiki.
My dog is a German Shepherd, an old one, but a good tracker. Do you have a dog?
  • Sharon Betts

I have two Leonbergers and just seeing the head peeking out of the grass made me think.... maybe. Their pages
  • Harold Shaw

Hi Sharon - We are almost neighbors, I live in Sidney and teach at Good Will-Hinckley. I am still learning this site, and learning 2.0 stuff...Would you be interested in becoming a friend on this site? Thanks Harold
  • Harold Shaw

Sure on the video's they are not really mine to say one way or the other, just ones that I want to show to other people and for myself. We are getting ready to try out Moodle, I get to go to the DOE training on Dec 7, it looks interesting and hopefully I will be able to figure it outl. Well trying to setup a new laptop, wife said I could buy an new one and I just got it this afternoon. Any suggestions on must have 2.0 stuff? Thanks Harold
  • Sharon Betts

    Sorry,
I am asking if you know any native speaking classes of students that would like to team with the two spanish learning classes here. Guess it was late when I typed it.

  • Scott Walker

I'm going to switch over to here so that the rest aren't gettting bombarded with emails about new comments posted on that forum topic.

How does your laptop lease work?
  • Laurie Korte

We will be hosting a Moodle Meet on Jan. 4th from 9-12 in Northbrook, IL at the District 28 offices both in person and online http://moodlemeet.ning.com. We look forward to meeting, hearing, and sharing with Moodlers, Moodler wannabes, and Moodler maybes.

    Sharon -

Definitely interested in the younger group. I work with 4th and 6th graders. Let me know what I can/need to do!
  • kolson

will be joining the wiki today! Thanks!

    Sharon,

I just saw the comment you left for me a month ago -- I don't know why I wasn't notified you left it or why I didn't see it earlier. Unfortunately, even though I was successful in getting Ning unblocked by our District, the CAPTCHA is still blocked, so students can't sign-up. Sigh... I'm now working with a group of teachers from different parts of the world on projects that we're sharing other ways.
