Hi, I teach grade 10 (14,15 year olds) class for civic next semester (Feb -June 09) and was wondering if there are other teachers that want to have our students collaborate. One Idea would be for teachers involved to have students look at and write about, present a civic issues of concern in their local community- we could build a wiki or use Ning to share. I'm open to ideas and eager to try to remove the "physical walls" of the classroom for students. I'm from Burlington, Ontario, Canada. it would be cool to have contact with another,city, province or country. I know curriculum is different in each area so we can decide on details as we go. I haven't done this before so advise or experience is welcome but not required.

Hi MJ,
I'm interested in projects that use Web 2.0 for civics education - are you working on something with kids?
Hi, Deb,
Yes I want to create a new web 2.0 project from my students.
Still in planning stage and looking for ideas,
Here are a few possibilites

Create a discussion on what local issues are important to youth in different areas of the world.

In the past I 've had them work on project called "how the government affects me?"
this might be very interesting if it was changed to "how the government affects me in ..(province/state/country)
and students in other areas of the world can compare and gain a more global perspective.

A follow up later in the course;
How to influence the government. which we can change to "How youth can influence the government in (provinc/state/country).

It would also be interesting to discuss how technology is being used in politics and government today.

We can start with one idea to start and go from there.

What do you think?
It sounds really interesting to me. I have a few students that would like to get involved in this.

I teach Social Studies at Tesla High School in Colorado Springs. I am looking for teachers that would like to join my in a project to use satellite video conferencing to have our students learn about Globalization from each other. We would collborate on lesson plans, have the students create projects, then have our students present those projects to each other, long distance, via video conferencing. Don't let the subject of Globalization intimidate you. It just means how do we overcome our differences to work productivily with each other?
Anyone Game?
