Ireen's DRA 2 question

Ireen sent a private message to members of our group, but I was not sure where to respond. The link with my email led back to this group's main page but I don't see a DRA discussion here. Forgive me if this belongs elsewhere.

Here's the question she posed: "I'm Ireen and I am a reading teacher for a elementary school. Does anyone have any powerpoints showing how to teach teach teachers how to administer the DRA 2. Our district just purchased the materials and wants the reading department to do the training"

I think it would be helpful to others if we respond on a discussion board here, rather than just to Irene's email, since I can't find another discussion where it fits. Videos, powerpoints, other helpful things to share?

You can do all of the presentations you want to, but I have learned first hand that you have to have the teachers practice giving the test and analyzing the test. I suggest showing one of the training videos (K-3 and 4-6 come with the kits) to the teachers, and providing them with an actual survey/report to analyze and score. You can then take the teachers through your own analysis/scoring and discuss the importance of finding the students' independent level. Be sure to stress the after scoring planning of instruction. That is an area that I am finding a lot of weaknesses in. The teachers are so happy to be finished giving the tests and getting a level that they put the tests away and don't use the information to guide instruction. As the teachers give the tests the first time, you should be available to help them analyze and plan.
