The purpose of the global awareness lesson I created is to expose a sixth-grade class of students to other ways of being. I sought to accomplish this by setting up each student with a pen pal from a different country. Here is a brief overview of the activity, of what makes it global and of how I would incorporate the activity into my classroom.

What makes the activity global
How I would incorporate the activity into my classroom
In closing, I think that learning about another country/culture by talking with someone who lives there is far more effective than simply reading about it in a textbook. My hope is that this activity will get students interested in the larger world and that they will have an appreciation for diversity.

I really like your lesson! ePals sounds like a great resource for this lesson. Not only will students be using current technology, but they will learn about someone from a completely different culture.
I like the idea that they are not only communicating, but then they are gathering information for a presentation. I like that you are incorporating other parts of technology by adding blogs or using resources such as Prezi to help present their information. I think that by adding the research and presentation component there is a lot that can pertain to many subject areas.
Stephanie,
This activity is very similar to what I will have my students do. I want them to connect with students from other regions in the world to discover the most popular sports they play. I agree with you that it is much more effective for students to connect that way and learn than read about it in a text book.
