1. What activity did you select to use for your global assignment? Describe the activity and what makes it global?
The activity I chose was for my students to connect with another classroom from around the world on ePals to research and learn about sports played in other regions of the world. The students had to research games played in the United States and overseas before meeting the other class. Once meeting the other class, students had to demonstrate the rules and tactics of the games they play in their region of the world using the video conferencing application, Skype.
2. Describe how you incorporate that activity into your classroom.
It is important for students to understand that the sports that we play in the United States are not the only sports played throughout the world and that often the most popular sports here are not the most popular elsewhere. Physical Education standards state that students must not only demonstrate competency in movement skills and patterns but also understand concepts and tactics of sports and physical activity. Students will form groups and use Google Docs to record any research found about sports in the United States and around the globe. During the second lesson, students will use Skype to communicate with the other class and demonstrate their favorite games from their respective part of the globe. Lastly, students will use Google Docs again to complete a slideshow presentation about the similarities and differences between the games played in their region and games played in the other class' region.

What a great idea for students to learn about other sports and sport cultures from another country. I really like the ePals website and how easy it is to connect with foreign classrooms. Technology is bringing the world closer with more available resources. Your activity also has the students learning how to accept and adopt other ways of life. I like how you also incorporate collaboration amongst the two classrooms. It's interesting that we as educators have the ability to bring different cultures and countries together. Now that's powerful!
