RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. According to Wikipedia's definition, RSS is used to publish frequently updated works – such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video – in a standardized format. Without trying to get too technical, RSS publishes information in an XML (extensible markup language) which allows various programs on the web to read and publish the information without too much trouble. It's like a universal language for the web. One the best programs for searching for feeds is Google News. You can search for any published news article from your desktop. Try searching for an issue that relates to your AP class. One of my favorite topics in APES is species loss. You can also limit your search under "Advanced Search" to a particular newspaper, time period, state or country. By limiting your search to a particular country, AP students can reserach the different perspectives on an issue based on cultural, or socio-economic differences (as in developing and developed nations). What topics that you discuss in your AP course lend themselves to using an RSS search engine, such as Google News?
