Video lectures replacing / supplementing classroom interaction.

Large tracts of hilly regions of my state are pretty remote with far flung single teacher schools in most of the areas. I have been toying for sometime with the idea of video lectures supplemented by a short online interaction for schools in these areas. How well would it work? Any comments / suggestions?
