As the novel opens, Winter is given the opportunity to create her own image and ensure that the reader understands her as the main character.  What is your opinion on Winter as the protagonist and how does her setting, influences and background help you understand her?  In answering this question, discuss how her father's status influenced her outlook on life as well.  Lastly, discuss the reason that Winter found the idea of moving from the surroundings she's known her whole life repulsive and unnecessary.

How does all of this tie into the way that the plot unfolds from chapters 1-10?

My opinion is that Winter outlook on life was more for the finer things. Her father situation didnt help out because he spoiled her with the finner things. Now that she having to survive in the world without him. She trying to start a hustle so can still be up there with her stuff. Its not she want to be that way thats justn how she raised. She dont want anybody to she her fall off. She dont want people to think they equal nor better than her. Santiago basically spoil her since she was baby.
I do agree with you on her desire for finer things in life. But, how did the opening of the novel encourage her to even get to the point of hustling being a way of life for her? Santiaga did spoil her and considered himself to still be spoiling her by giving her a better life but Winter did not take the finer things the same way as her father. This was a way of life that would protect his family and now she is not only unsatisfied but also unhappy. How does that happen?
Winter always had everything her way everything she wanted Santiaga had it there for her.He was the one showing her how things were done and how to get your money .Thats why Winter thinks shes always beter than everyone else and she always wants things done her way no matter what. Winter thinks shes superior to veryone else including her friends.
In my opinion winter is influenced by the Brooklyn invironment because if thats all you no thats what you would be. Also if your father is a drug dealer you wouldn't be the best individual in the world eather you would be a rough neck to.
I agree with this statment because Winter was surounded by alot negative actions which made her act the way that she did and the simple fact that she was living in a very bad area
I agree with this because if you have somebody that you really look up to and they're a drug dealer, then that's exactly what your going to look in to since you've figured that they made good money, so you can too.
Winter is highly influenced by her environment. She has everything she want and need thanks to her father. If it wasn't for him being such a well known drug dealer, I believe she wouldn't have been the kind of person she is. Put yourself in her shoes, what would you have done if you were her? She knows nothing more than where she was born, raised, and in control.
If you were in control, why would you want to move somewhere where you have to start all over? I think this is why Winter was rebelious towards moving to Long Island.
I completely agree with this statement. If I had a father who was really rich and known pretty much everywhere, then i would take advantage of the idea. I would be a spoiled brat who knows nothing about education, except a little money talk.
I agree with this simply because if winter didnt have her father she probably would not be the person she is today it would probably be worse..
Winter's background is very important because it shows the type of person that she is it also, tells us the life that she lived you can tell just from her background that she really didn't have a rough life because she basically, did not have to ask for hardly any thing because of the power and wealth that her father had. Most people feared her father he had a lot of respect. people feared winter just because of her fathers name. The move that santiaga made was a very smart decision, he always said that he never mixed pleasure and business together and if he do that can put his family life in danger
Winter had a negative influecnce in the area that she grew. She was surrounded by alot of outside problems and drug issues. As Winter grew older she experinced lots of negative things her father and mother were always there to support and love her.As the time passed there family had to face threw some difficult issues which made there family seperate, but that made Winter and Santiaga grow even stronger and that helped them stick together but this helped Winter value all the things that she had. When Winter and her family moved away from Brooklyn thats when all of the problems began to arose for everyone ,but they all tried to overcome them and find a solution.
Winter is influecnce by her enviroment, and those negative influence the way she is and how she reacts to situations. Her parents are the main source of her life, they teach her everything she knows they are always their to surporrt her in anything and really love her.Santiaga (her father) is a little over protective with her so when they moved from Brooklyn he became even more protective towards her.Through this chapters their family went trough some difficult situations but they were always their for each other, especially Santiaga to Winter.
