Hi, I have a 3rd grade tech iTeam. They are looking forward to showing teachers and students how to use our school hardware and software, create multimedia projects and help inventory school equipment. I am wondering if there is anyone else with an elementary tech team. This is our first year with a group like this and we'd love some seasoned advice.

Ditto. iTeam?

We have a Tech Team at our district. It has representatives from Elementary, Middle and High School on it. They give in-service training to staff as a whole, but they also do training with each building. Nothing to students as yet, but our staff varies so much in technical expertise that we need to level that off first. I would like to see them do more curriculum integration/planning but most efforts are currently on...well...who knows actually. We don't see or hear all that much from them. Their latest input was on how to email PDFs to our Print Shop.
iTeam is a term coined by Gary Lanoie from Maine. Everything in Maine is Mac. Our 7th and 8th grade students receive Macbook laptops from the state program, MLTI. In some districts, even the high school students have 1:1 laptops. "iTeam" is a play off of "iBook" and the name has a sense of community and creativity. I have attached a pdf that explains more. Our third grade students have access to 2 COWs of Macbooks and a COW of netbooks as well as a host of multimedia tools and hardware. Right now they are interviewing staff in the building to see if there are any issues the staff would like to educate parents, students or other staff about. The iTeam will pick one and create a multimedia awareness project.

Interesting article. Sounds like fun.
I am just beginning with a Tech Team at my school comprised of volunteers in fourth and fifth grades. Our first meeting is in two weeks. We meet after school every other month to learn web 2.0 and other skills and then the students will be mentors and teach others. I am hoping it will encourage the use of technology on site. Our first meeting we will create a PhotoStory video of the theme of their choice. I am concerned that I should have chosen something easier to start with, but they are really motivated to learn prerequisit skills to do this like creating folders, saving photos, doing image searches. I have been using Jing to create video tutorials on the library website. We will have them view the first one this week and see how that works. What kinds of projects do you plan to do with your group? It would be fun to have them write to eachother and compare what we create.
