Lesson Plans

Hello friends on Classroom 2.0! I am an education student at Lewis University. While in education courses we are being taught how to do full lesson plans, but as I observe in current classes I am seeing teachers using compact lesson plans. Which method do you think is the most successful? Which one should I be using?
