I hope I can get this activity going soon. TD
David's' visit with the historical figures during the their crucial moment in time was important because we don't really think about the struggles that historians have encountered during their moment of action. The action that has defined a specific event in history could have rewrote history as we know it today if a different decision had been made.

Chamberlain faced with the decision to retreat or to stay, could have changed the course of the United States on that particular day. Chamberlain stated, "When I am faced with the choice of doing nothing or doing something, I will always choose to act. I am a person of action." At the end of this story as Chamberlain was charging the enemy, David watched as the odds were against Chamberlain. We all face what sometime looks like the odds are against us, David could also overcome the odds in his life.
I think it lets us see how those figures were handling the pressure and the situation.
It made me think about situations in my life and how changing my attitude could effect my situations for the better.
You quoted Chamberlain saying "I will always choose action". This made me think of situations that I have been in myself and those that our children find themselves in whether it's an easy decision to make or choosing to stand up for someone who can't take a stand for themselves. This character really made me think about being an active person in life.
I agree with what you say about changing the course of history. What if Chamberlain had chose to do nothing? Would there have been someone else to take the lead?
That's a good question. If we don't do what we were created to do, is there someone else who WILL do it?
I think it made him realize/remember the importance of historical events. Also, I think he learned how other people handled situations during history.
These were the times that each historical figure used their "advices." It allows David to see the character utilize the advice they give him.
I feel that this was important in order for both David and the reader to recognize the significance of those decisions.
It made David realize that he is not the only person that had problems to face. It showed that problems go back in the past and even historical figures faced physical, emotional, financial, and spirtual problems.
I didn't think about it this way. He did seem to think his problems were the worst in history because they applied to him, but when he was put into the historical events, they became relavent to him.
