Help needed to teach trigonometry proofs.

Students are generally weak in mathematical proofs. Average students have no problems in applying formula but when it comes to proofs, they are stuck and lost on how to approach the questions. Formula like R-formula, double angle formula, etc seems too far-fetched to them. It is also hard to relate such questions to real-life examples.
