Transparent Technology and Teacher Learning

I'm wondering if anybody has any interesting stories about ways in which subject area teachers are using technology as part of the professional development process to strengthen teaching and learning. I'm particularly interested in stories in which there is no real connection to technology other than the mode in which the professional development was acquired. I'd love to hear about real time activities that included rich dialogue between participants even though they were separated in physical distance.
