Information

Elementary School 2.0

Since elementary teachers have special circumstances to deal with concerning the use of technology, I thought we could meet here to talk and to share ideas for 2.0 integration.

I had my grade 1 class create part their e portfoios/reflection using Animoto. There is a free educator's license that allows you make full length videos. www.animoto.com . Its simple to use, a great presentation vehicle but its also very good for reflection, sharing and commenting/assessment as well.

Hi. I am a grade five teacher at an International IB-PYP school in Germany. The students and I are currently using Edmodo, Voicethreads and an edublog classroom blog to share our thinking and collaborate with others. The students have opportunities to present their thinking using all sorts of web2.0 tools - glogster, prezi and photo peach are amongst the current favourites.

I'm very keen to connect with people from all corners. If you are looking for a class to buddy up with, I'd love to talk more. If you are looking to talk and share classroom practise ideas, I'd love to talk more. As we begin to prepare for our PYP Exhibition I'd especially like to connect with other exhibition teachers.

@Angie: Have you tried Animoto? It allows for images, video clips and text. You can sign up for an animoto for education acct. Glogster (www.edu.glogster.com) might also be an option as it can take video, audio and images.

Angie, I like 280 Slides because it lets you embed video into a presentation. It's web-based so I'm not sure if your school might block it, but if not, I think it's worth a look. You can read more about it on my blog if you like.

Hello collective techno brains! I could use your help......I am working with a group of 5th and 6th graders on a persuasive current event topic and am looking for suggestions as to what "tool" the groups could use to present their persuasive argument. I was considering Pixie since they can bring in photos, add text, music, and their voice but am thinking there must be something else out there, perhaps to add even video? I am familiar with VoiceThread but I do not believe that is the best choice for this particular project? Thank you in advance for your help, I sure could use it!

Hi Debbie - I teach 4th grade in KS - I have 4 ipod touches and 4 nanos. The reading, science, and social studies text books all have audio CD content that's been put on the ipods. I have students listen to them individually, or up to five in a group. It could be to hear the information prior to a class lesson or read, or as a re-read, absent students, etc. Students take pretests and/or tests for spelling. I record them using Garage Band (previously used Audacity.) On the ipod touches, I place the 'reading' apps on one page, 'science' on another page, and so on for 'math', 'social studies', 'productivity tools', ect. The ipod touches also come with a voice recorder. Students can give a verbal response/explanation, then send it to iTunes or email. I haven't used them much as an internet tool yet.

Anyone using the iTouch in the classroom with students in grades 3-5? Would love to hear about it. We just got a set for the classroom. Tip? Troubleshooting?

FYI - I just noticed a new elementary catalog from School Specialty. It's a very interesting approach, matching class products with the different frameworks and funding sources. http://www.schoolspecialty.com/instructional-materials.jsp
