How Could War Look Different.pdfHi Brandon, how are you? I stumbled upon your social studies department page and thought you might be interested, given your background, in a project that I am working on called "How Could War Look Different?" It is a two part online project that can be applied to any war (People have signed up for the American Revolution, the Civil War and WWII). The first half re-enacts the wars online and the second half of the project re-imagines the acts aware through the lens of peace. I've attached the program. Please let me know if you are interested and feel free to send it along to any of your colleagues that you feel might want to take part.

Be well.

Sincerely,

Great job with the CLC dinner last night! Great turnout and most that attended seemed to be the teachers that are likely to share that info with their colleagues.

Hi, Brandon. Can we arrange a time to talk?

I've I've put together a workshop aimed at district leaders and administrators, and I've titled it "Immunizing Your School Programs Against Extended Closings," (Click here to download a copy of a draft of the workshop offerings, divided between hands-on workshops for teachers and another set for district leaders and administrators. The workshop on "immunizing programs" is on the 3rd page.)

Beyond the workshop offering, however, is a greater opportunity to actually put in place an emergency plan of action against extended school closings, whether for H1N1 or any other natural disaster. I've created such a system with a group of programmers out of Silicon Valley. We call this model a 'social learning community" and Penn's College of Liberal & Professional Studies uses this system to provide synchronous and asynchronous learning for their community through their Open Learning Commons. Other users of this system include Kaplan University. (Here's a link to a summary piece about GoingOn and their open source social learning community framework.)

I've created an easy "step" process by which school districts can actually put in place a very powerful emergency response system to protect the integrity of their curriculum in the face of extended school closings. This step process is very cost-effective and will have minimal impact on hard-pressed district budgets. I'd like to talk more with you about this.

If you know of any districts that are seriously considering options in the face of potential extended school closings, and want to learn about a cost-effective, intuitive, rapid response system that can be put in place in a matter of several weeks in order to address community needs and concerns, please let me know. I'd love to share ideas on this.

If you want to connect, please email me at my regular address: stephen.wilmarth@gmail.com or call me directly anytime at 860-227-1225. I look forward to catching up with you.

Cheers,

Steve
