I have vast memories of using technology starting at a young age.

I remember when my dad bought our first computer. It was a Compaq model that took forever to even set up (in hindsight). I was about 7 years old when he bought it, and I remember watching him use it for business and the internet. Meanwhile, in school, we were being taught the basic functions of computers, ie., paint, typing, basic games, etc. I took interest in computers and my dad taught me a lot on our home computer. I was fascinated that I could talk to someone across the country on this thing called, "instant messenger." The kids' chat rooms on AOL were a lot of fun, but since our internet was slow, we always had trouble logging me into one before it became full.

A lot of gifts from my dad growing up were computer related. He handed down the old PC to me when he got a new one, and bought lots of educational games, such as JumpStart 4th grade, and a exploratory game about dinosaurs. I can probably credit a lot of my educational success and computer literacy to my father.

My first internet experience was with AOL, and I that was before Chat Rooms. I recall one specific incident when it seemed like I was able to send email back and forth to my friends and it was like a conversation because I'd send an email, they'd read it, and then reply and then I'd get their email, read it and reply again. It made my appreciation of things like chat, and later other voice technologies really much deeper.
