We need to teach students how to read a textbook - since most only know how to read a novel. There are numerous ways to review the chapter/section prior to students actually reading the text.
Introduce the topic and look for background knowledge and misconceptions. .
One option is to use a strategy known as PLAN (Predict-Locate-Add-Note). First, students scan the chapter’s title, subtitles, key words, graphs/tables, etc. Next, students create a concept map and make note on which…

A number of educators are starting to use video technology to capture everything from class drama projects, to school activities and outings, or to make available supplementary notes or how-to instructions for assignments and projects. These video-taped items are typically made available to students via classroom computer(s) or the library's computers, however, many teachers are now taking advantage of…

I am currently looking into setting objectives and providing feedback. Setting objectives is pretty old hat for me but providing meaningful feedback is an area that I purpose could grow in. If anyone has some ideas or websites that they could share on this topic, that would be great.
Thanks,

Teachers, students, parents and homework 2
Introduction
Homework must be part and parcel of any learning process. The classroom is just an artificial setting and classroom tasks are only starting points. They provide guidance, assistance and purpose. However, more tasks should be dealt with in the outside world. These tasks should meet some criteria in order to be effective. These critera may be linked to the teacher and learners, to the tasks assigned, or to the parents roles.…

I'm currently a mother, chef, textile artist, working as a relief teacher, secondary education in Tasmania. Food and Textiles. I'm loving blogging and am interested in the shift that youth and technology, economic and climate change are all ushering in. It is significant that as the new tools/resources are introduced the old pedagogy are dying. I appreciate Steve Hardegon Will Richardson,George Siemens and Stephen Downes as guides as I navigate the fault lines.

I teach A&P for highschool seniors...I created a neat activity for exploring the Skeletal System. The students will work with a partner and "roam" throughout the building trying to find answers for a scavenger hunt. They are encouraged to bring a cell phone or camera to document some of the answers they discover. I will include a couple of questions as an example.....
