Once you put it out on the net, you can't take it back!

I am currently in a class about digital literacy, and last night as I lay in bed, I couldn't stop thinking about what this. There is no erase button; there is no take-backs. Well...this scares the........well....it scares me period. I lay there thinking about why I was able to post to Facebook, but Twitter and Classroom 2.0 was scary, and I think I discovered my problem. On Facebook, it is only my friends and family, or at the very worst, old classmates that will see me-see my mistakes. Twitter… Continue

Success Prep Conferences - guiding freshmen into the future

This post was originally posted on The Freshman Transition Network.

"If only someone had told me that when I was a freshman!"

What a sad statement to hear coming from a high school senior. High school is all about choices. As educators we must take every opportunity to help students and parents make better informed choices early on in their high school careers.

I would like to a recommend a model for doing… Continue

I Have Been Thinking

I am now enrolled in a technology class at Johnson Bible College. In this class I have so far learned a lot of useful stuff. I have always enjoyed technology and things that are involved with technology. Since I have always loved technology this means that I love this class. During this class I have been questioning why I am really in the teaching program at JBC. I have been thinking that…

Smartboards in the Classroom

When you think of a classroom, one of the first things that pops in your head is a chalkboard. Nowadays, these are a pretty rare find. Most teachers now have smartboards or an activeboard that they use when they teach. A smartboard is an interactive board that works with computers to enhance the learning experience. Because I graduated in 2007 and am from a small county, smartsboards weren't all that common. So I…

First Impressions of PLNs

I have never heard of a PLN before today! When I started to read about them, I immediately thought, 'oh no, not another Moodle page or Blackboard posting!!!' ugh. I just finished my masters in educational technology, and I have about had it with posting things for the sake of posting as an assignment. (I guess that's what this is, but hopefully it will become more than that!!) Then of course comes the repsponse to others, which normally ends up being a waste of time.

After further…

iPad makes iResearch

My apologies for the cliche title and bad grammar, but I couldn't resist the urge.

I am not a Mac user. I wanted to be, but I couldn't afford it and decided that I wouldn't be able to figure out the new programs anyways. There is an incredible fascination in our American society with Apple products. Macs are viewed as the superior machine, perhaps because they are more expensive and look cooler than PCs. I had a friend who worked at the Apple… Continue

facebook

Facebook is an interesting source of communication. Some of the words and phrases our generation has incorporated into our language associated with Facebook are "facebook stalking" or "creeping", "facebook official" in regards to relationships and "facebooked" to imply one has been contacted through the site.
Facebook is ever-changing. It's interesting to see people's reactions to an updated version of the site. While it takes a few minutes for people…

AFL on the Football Field

This post was originally posted on Assessment FOR Learning

Sometimes when you are trying to understand how an idea applies to a certain arena, it helps to have an example from a completely different arena. In that vein, here is an example of how AFL strategies have been used in high school football. Football? Yep.

Warm Weather

I am so glad that we have had a couple days of warm weather! I was really getting tired of the gloomy, bitter cold, and especially all the snow! It was so great when the sun came out on Thursday(maybe it was Friday)! Not sure how long this warm little spurt will last. In fact, that's proably what it is for now, a little spurt. But I have enjoyed it, thoroughly! I wore a t-shirt, shorts, and sandals yesterday!

Cyber Bullying vs. Freedom of Speech

I've just come across yet another case that calls into question just how involved a school should be when it comes to disciplining cyber bullying. A student in Florida is suing her former principal after she was suspended back in 2007 for creating a Facebook criticizing one of her teachers. The page, which was up only for a few days, had current and past students commenting on the teacher's abilities, some for and some against.

Two months later, the student, Katherine Evans, was… Continue
