I have spent most of my career teaching middle school language arts and social studies. I spent 2 years working with teachers all over the state as a full release mentor for the Alaska Statewide Mentor Project. I spend most of my professional energies focusing on 2 things - learning and teaching using strategies which enhance creative and critical thinking, and finding new and innovative ways to make technology part of that process.
With your work in Ed Tech integration, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service.
I left a comment on your blog, but thought you may not get it, so thought I would leave a message for you here. I am based in New Zealand and involved with eLearning and distance education in rural schools. I noted from your blog that you are involved with education in rural schools in Alaska, so I am sure that there are many similarities in the challenges we face as educators and providers of professional development / edtech. The schools I work with are mainly secondary schools, but there are two primary/middle schools in the group too. We use video conferencing, Adobe Connect and online learning environments as the tools to facilitate learning and distance learning.
You can check out stuff at www.virtuallearning.school.nz and on my blog, fastpaddy.blogspot.com.
Hi Tracie. I was wondering if you have high school contacts who would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
