I will make the other departments aware of the opportunity. Thank you and good luck. Does "@ MIT" actually mean students traveling to Boston or just their work?
Hi Jack, I have already passed this to my high school people. I will send a reminder for Jan. 5 when they return to school. I think it is an awesome opportunity. The kids will love it.
Cheryl
Good news! Our Junior AP Lit teacher is interested in your BrainyFlix project. I've sent him the link. Check off Chattanooga, TN as one of your locations. I'll be cheering him on. Thanks for letting us know about this.
Jack I went to the contest site and it said the end date for submitting entries was March 16, 2008. It's now 09, (how did that happen). Is this still a valid contest. My team teacher may be interested in participating in it.
I will pass your request along to my husband Jamie, who is one of the technology coaches for our district here in Magnolia. I'm pretty sure he will be able to find some secondary folks who would love the opportunity to participate. Thanks for the contact!
Yes. I would definitely be interested in this, and I'll pass along the info to my colleagues. I saw some similar projects that students had done with vocabulary words when I attended the National Council of Teachers of English in San Antonio recently and had already thought of implementing this in my classroom. Thanks so much for the invite!
Thanks for the invite. I think my kids would love this; I'll bring it to my admin and see what their take on it is. If it's good for admin, I'll bring it to my students.
Thanks for looking me up. One quick question that is not addressed in the rules, are movies allowed to be used as a foundation, or does it have to be the tapes of students? e.g. I've taken a scene from Shaolin Soccer and overlayed the information to teach students "kenetic energy" or "shockwave" - add some music and it ends up being similar to a music video with popup info. Is this allowed for the competition?
Thanks for the invite. At the moment, I am not interested but I will keep it in mind for the future.
I feel it is important students analyze and understand the impact different technologies have on their lives;both positively and negatively. Do you have any ideas for lessons on the subject?
I teach a 6th grade course in 21st Century skills, I know the vocab is tough, but hey they can do one word! This should be a fun project for the new year!
Hi Jack. I teach library in an Intermediate School (grades 3-5). Were you looking for middle schoolers or high schoolers? All the librarians in my district (Commack) will be meeting on Wednesday, 1/7 after school. Can you send me some info that I can present to them? I do not think that they are members of Classroom 2.0, so could you send me a hyperlink to forward to them? They may know of classroom teachers who would be interested in presenting this to their students.
Got it - just saw Jill vacillating - very cute and looks like a lot of fun. i need to check out school policy on kids submitting videos through school. All of the legal issues are rather new to us. I'll try to get back to you tomorrow. I gather the rules are on the BrainyFlix.com site.
Jack,
I will talk with our tech director about the possibility. As I believe I saw on someone else's comment . . . got to make sure there aren't any legal ramifications, etc., etc., etc.
It does sound very interesting. I hope I will be given the "go ahead" and can spread the word!
Hey Jack, no, you didn't drop the ball, I have just been away from my desk to tend to some family stuff. Yes, let's set up a podcast next week. When are you avail? Why don't you ping me directly at ernest.koe@proofgroup.com.
I blogged about it BrainyFlix (http://tipline.blogspot.com/2009/01/brainyflix-vid-can-get-you-200.html) and it's been mentioned a few times by different folks on Twitter. You should get some good response. Good luck!
Jack - Tell me you are the guy who is eating spagetti w/maple syrup........ Thank you for the challenge. I am going to see my teachers tomorrow and will entice them to participate. I think the students are going to love the challenge. What a neat idea!. I will also share this with other school districts in W. NY so that you will have a representative sample.
Hello Jack, I am interested in this and will share the contest with my Digital Production Club. I really like the idea and am interested in wrapping my head around it some more...
