I am back in school on Monday and I will ask my students. I will get back to you. Are the videos available to all students even if they don't make one?
sounds interesting - our district is always trying to improve vocab. I have middle schoolers that take the ISAT - Illinois Standard Achievement Test - not the college entry SAT but vocab is always our weakest part. What a fun way to boost interest - and I am always looking for new video projects.
Wow! What a great idea to improve vocabulary! I'll ask around at our school to see if anyone would be interested. Let me know if there's any more information that I need to share with them. Thanks for asking!
I work for a pretty prestigious prep school and many of our past students have attended to MIT, so I am certain that some of our current students would be interested. Email me the info and I'll pass it on!
Jack,
I think our 6th graders might be able to do this. Is there additional information that you can email me? I'm interested in learning more about the words - are they assigned?
Thaanks, Jack. Good idea. I have to check into our video capabilities at our school. By the way, I came from NJ, but I live and teach in Washington State.
I am working at a middle school this year teaching math, but I can get you contact info for the school I worked at last year. Its a technology academy and the principal is pushing for podcasts etc with a school wide emphasis on vocabulary.
Hey Jack!
This looks like a lot of fun. My students are 8 years old, limited English, and have a style of humor that is WAY different than that of middle school, high school kids--but give us a try and we'll see what happens. Let me know how the words are assigned. Thanks!
Hi Jack - I teach elementary so I am not sure how many people at my school would be interested in SAT Vocab - I would suggest emailing our Superintendent, Carol Comeau, comeau_carol@asdk12.org. Hope that helps!!
Thank you for the info. about the contest. Great idea! I will forward to the English teachers and other teachers in the sophomore academy at my school. My middle school son is also interested in submitting some videos.
Very exciting idea and contest. My students will be participating. Check out our school site at: http://www.wyckoffschools.org/eisenhower/etv/index.html
Would you be interesting in doing a Skype interview about the contest for our school TV show?
I wold be very interested in participating - but we are an Elementary school at the rules say Middle or High School. Could my upper elementary school students participate? (3rd - 5th grade)
Jack,
Yes! We are very interested in competing in the SAT vocab video contest! (Well, I am - I haven't discussed it with my students-or anyone else at school). But I love videos as a way of teaching vocabulary. I teach a reading class for 9th and 10 grade students with IEP reading goals. A few weeks ago we started creating a digital dictionary - an idea I got from watching Wordia online. My students loved creating and videotaping. I know some would be interested in spending time after school to create videos. I will go to your site and get all the details and share them with my students next week!
Hi,
I will ask around to see if any of the Language arts teachers wish to get involved. I know there are issues involved in access for students to certain types of social networking.
I love this idea! I definitely will have my darlings do one and will put the word out on several list-serves here in Arkansas to see if I can drum up some other interest. I have spent alot of time this year trying to get my students to understand the importance of vocabulary. This will be fun way to get some of them motivated.
Thanks for the invitation.
Mary
Thanks for the information. I am passing the informaiton on to several teachers within our high school and middle school. Sounds like a great classroom project.
This looks like a fun project for our students. I've passed the information on to a number of people within our district. Hopefully we'll get a number of students involved.
Hey Jack- I will definitely pass along your contest info to the SAT prep teachers at my HS- looks like a GREAT idea (I esp. like the nod to "Elf" in your sample video about "veneer"!) I will also blog about the contest on my NJ educator blogs- hopefully that will get you some more NJ kids participating. Good Luck & Happy New Year!
