Welcome James from Germany! I created the biggest group DigiSkills on Classroom 2.0 as well. Check it out and feel free to join!

Hi James, very interesting story! Thanks for your advices as to WebQuests. I work a lot on this way of teaching:
    1. I created webquests with help of students from University Regensburg (I care about) on instantprojects.org in Geography
    http://instantprojects.org/webquest/german.php?cmd=resetall
    2. In the lessons students have to work in groups:
    - creating mindmaps with mindmeister.com
    - ppt
    - summary in a magazine: Magazinefactory
    - creating blogs
    - creating websites ..
I will check out your templates.
By the way, have you already joined the workspace on my group DigiSkills?
    Cheers

    Hey James,
It looks like we're doing the same thing. I teach ed tech at Kent State (OH). My course is online and we do e-portfolios, wequests...maybe we can discuss assignments and class projects etc.
  • Mary Hricko

    Hi Jim,

Believe it or not, I'm actually working on it right now. As soon as I get it done, I'll send you a copy of my first draft. To get a sense of some of our projects, here's our course site http://www.itecksu.org/courses/edtech/pages/Assignments.html.

I'm planning on changing some assignments around to integrate more web2.0 applications --for example, using a wiki instead of frontpage to build the portfolio.

    Talk to you soon.

No problem, I'm doing the same thing. Basically, I've decided to use my CMS tool as the primary course site, but I'm going to have my students build a course wiki. We will probably also test using Sakai--so I'm basically building my course in three sites for students to learn how to use. Let me know what you're doing, too.

    James,

I am looking for students and researchers, perhaps like yours, to look specifically at learning through online sound, animation, and interactivity. We focus on history, but that's a pretty broad reach and can use many kinds of technology tools.

If you all know of any research, or want a topic for new research, we're looking at how these things work or don't work. (Don't work to often for general learners IMHO). Any insight at all would be great.

Oh, and can you get my CSU parking ticket fixed?

    Jim:

It's just a text box that I update manually. You have to use some html code, but I'll send you the raw code for our sidebar and you'll see how relatively simple it is.

I'm assuming many of the CSU members who have joined are because of you--I left a long comment on the blog of one student. Did she ever mention it?
  • Steve Hargadon

I'm really glad you've been introducing the site. None of us know where this experiment is going, and if it has shown one thing, it's shown that age does not appear to be the predominant factor in using these tools. I think we often assume that just because a generation has grown up with technology that they will immediately "grok" the deeper levels of that technology. I do think your students are more likely to quickly try something new.

One comment I left on a student's blog, since she had arrived at the conclusion that she got better information from a search than asking a question on the social network. I'll find my response and send it to you.

So glad to have you interested and experimenting.
