Using Photo story in the classroom

Photo story 3 is a lot easier to use than Movie Maker. The only draw back is that you cannot put video clips into it like you can Movie Maker. One of my fourth grade classes created a "documentary film" on an animal that they had researched.

Hi! My name is Chelsey Kusek and I am an elementary art teacher in the North Kansas City School District.  I would love to learn more about this technological resource in order to implement it in my art room!

I also teach middle school and for the past three years, I've used PS3 during my 8th Grade Civil War unit. I assign the kids topics and they work in groups (this year I did pairs to increase individual accountability) to create a "movie" about their topic. It's a long process (it took about 3 weeks from research to completion), but it's worth it. The kids dig into a topic in a way that not only they learn, but they know they have to "teach" their classmates the topic when we view the movies. They love it and they've taught me more about using it over the past three years than I think I could have learned in a class! It's always mentioned as a favorite project on my year-end evaluations.

Aloha~
I have used Photo Story at the middle school level. My students used the program to compose poetry and a means to respond to literature. Students composed and narrated various forms of poetry with corresponding images. They also used PhotoStory to create responses to literature. What worked well in this step was that students had a chance to draw their own illustrations for the images. Each image was drawn, photographed, and transferred into PhotoStory from the digital camera. The PhotoStory project provided the students with a sense of ownership and accountability.

I truly enjoyed integrating PhotoStory into my curriculum. It's always great to see the smiling faces when students share their work with their peers. Another great feature is that the program can be adjusted to various grade levels. It's also simple to use!

I have used PhotoStory in my high school genetics class. The students in pairs use the concept of genetics to 'create a baby' by passing down random facial traits. The students then tell a story about how the particular traits have been passed down to the next generation using pictures and narration and specific vocab words. Some students love this assignment while other students struggle using PhotoStory despite the step by step user guide I made for them.

Hi I am a teacher/curriculum writer/consultant seeking information on PhotoStory, which I have heard about awhile back, and now taking the time to develop some teacher sample lessons for our Divisional teachers. Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'll have to try the PS3. There's so positive feedback on this program that I'll give it a chance. Hope it's not too expensive - my school wouldn't afford it without sponsorship.

I am chairperson of an art and technology committee comprised of art teachers in grades K - 12. We just explored Photo Story 3 in our meeting 12/5 and are looking for those who have used this in an art classroom - ideas/tips/tricks etc. We were thinking of this to use for art criticism, student critiques etc. Thanks.
