I have been a personal Mac user forever. I am currently working at a school with no macs. I am trying to incorporate them into our technology room. Does anyone have a list of benefits for mac use in the classroom?

Sharon, it is unusual for a Mac to have a HD crash w/in it's first year of service, but it does happen. There are a bunch of troubleshooting techniques your tech can do to try to fix it, but if it is less then a year old it should still be covered under warranty. If that happens again, a possible (fsck -fy) booted into single user mode might resolve it or possibly booting into target disk mode via a firewire cable might help save items on the computer. It all depends on what is wrong w/ the machine.

You might want to install Apple Jack on that machine which could fix it as well http://applejack.sourceforge.net/

Last year I started a new job as a Library/Computer Lab teacher for elementary level. The school had a lab with all new MACS, and none of us really knew much about how to operate them. By the year's end, I think we mastered most of the basics, but one of the computers already had the hard drive crash. Has anybody else had this happen with almost brand new MAC computers?
We are wondering if we should have gone with the decision to have MACS in our computer lab, or if we 'd have rather gone with something else.

I look forward to participating in this group! I work in a 100% Macintosh district in central Virginia.

Check out my Mac video screencast page for educators who are on Macs!

Hey all,
I have a new job this year--library media-specialist. I've had to learn how to use a mac. I love it for myself--now I need to learn how to incorporate it into the library. Look forward to getting some ideas.
