My copy of the book is highlighted and sticky-noted beyond belief so I thought another good discussion thread to start would be some of your favorite quotes from The Book Whisperer. Please feel free to share and comment!
"Building a trusting relationship with students is easier when you expect them to do the right thing instead of assuming that they are not." -Pg. 67

Dearest group members,
I contacted Kelly Gallagher, the author of the new book "Readicide". Look for the interview in the next couple of weeks on my podcast "The Teacher's Life"....if you hurry and send a question to bnorman1@gmail.com you would like asked....I might be able to fit it in.
Of course...my experience with authors is that they take FOREVER to finally get on the phone.....so you may have time!

"My name is Michelle and I am a teachaholic," I admitted on Twitter the other day. They say the first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem. Anyone else willing to own up to their "addiction"?

What are the signs that you MIGHT be a teachaholic? Let's make this the equivalent to Jeff Foxworthy's "You might be a redneck..." shtick.
Lots of teaching experience in this group! What's your all-time favorite way to begin your school year? What kind of memorable activities do you plan for that first day back?

Many of us probably have time for ONE more "Just for Me" reads this summer. You know, those books that have really nothing to do with education, parenting, literacy, curriculum, etc, but are just plain fun bring-it-to-the-pool-and-relax kind of books. Suggestions?

I wonder what everyone would list as their top 3 indespensable-I-couldn't-live-with-out-em tools for literacy instruction. Thinking actual physical objects. Let's make this two-fold. List top 3 technological tools, and top 3 non-tech tools.

(I also wonder if many of these "things" will be the same for everyone?!)

Hmm... Technology ones will be easy, but non-tech... I'll have to think about that. :-)

I've built up quite a collection of links to reading web sites (you can view my list at www.mrstg.com/teacher_links.htm), but I'm constantly amazed at how often I run across ANOTHER good one. (By the way, I'll be adding the Classroom 2.0 site soon!)

So, what are your top three favorite sites? Or what suggestions do you have for sites I should add to my teacher link page?
Personally, I have a hard time not putting a plug in for the Reading Lady's Mosaic of Thought tool page. RICH in resources! (I say plug b/c at the VERY bottom of the list is a chart that's mine.) And I have to give a shout out to my new Classroom 2.0 friend David at EFL classroom. He's got a karaoke tool that I'm definitely passing around at school this fall.
Please share... :-)
