You could try <a href="http://www.flickr.com" target="_blank">www.flickr.com</a> and do an advanced search for creative commons images. This way you can legally use them, normally with only an attribution to the owner of the picture. Go here (have inserted a search for books) and tick the appropriate boxes in the creative commons section. When you find a photo you like llok on the right of th page for the licesne details and how you can use the image. Here is a youtube video showing the process…
