Creative, inventive, experiencing art and art collections together with the ideas to personally fabricate, remix and make something tangible with room for creativity, reinvention, and collaboration..... Sounds like 21st century skills abound.

As educators, if you had a 3D printer in your school or classroom, what do you imagine could happen? If you already have one, what uses exist?? Please share here or on the blog link.
Starting Over with Visual Communicatortag:www.classroom20.com,2011-06-29:649749:Topic:6645742011-06-29T01:02:42.768ZSusan Elmorehttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/SusanElmore

Helping kids learn how to read from a screentag:www.classroom20.com,2009-11-13:649749:Topic:4052952009-11-13T07:01:16.880ZAlline Sadahttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/AllineSada
Need ideas...

I teach Computers to grades 6-9 and I have noticed they have a hard time "reading from a screen".

I do a whole unit on skimming and scanning for reading comprehension when I teach them to identify high quality sites, BUT they need more practice. Unfortunately we do not have a whole lot of other computers for teachers to help kids when researching, so most of their "reading" when selecting sources is done at home and with little or no help.
The kids at school do read a lot of books. This, in my mind, is very linear and simple when compared to the layout of content on a website. So reading books doesn't seem to provide kids with the practice they need.

What do you think about magazines and newspapers? The layout is in columns, with a huge varierty of fonts and sizes. Colourful ads distracting from text, and a whole lot of pages meant to be skimmed and scan in a short period of time. As a user of web 2.0 in my English classes, I have now have the role of assisting my school's Creative Arts department with the integration of technology in the classroom. I was wondering if anyone here teaches any creative arts courses and could offer suggestions of how to integrate IT and / or web 2.0. Because of the nature of the courses, IT seems to be used less often, so it's difficult to find any helpful materials.
The Creative Arts department consists of Foods, Textiles, Visual Arts, Drama, Orchestra, and Choir. Our school uses tablets with OneNote, and we use Moodle; however, I'd love to hear about any other ideas too. What I've come up with so far is using OneNote in Foods to create and share recipe cards, recording and / or podcasting student progress in the Orchestra and Choir, and using OneNote to analyse artwork in the Visual Arts class. The textiles teacher wants to have the students create fashion portfolios and to come up with fashion design ideas, so I've suggested using OneNote for that. The Visual Arts teacher is using Diigo as a replacement for an information gathering assignment that used to involve cue cards. Seeking Examples of K-12 Fine Arts Gifted & Talented programstag:www.classroom20.com,2008-12-23:649749:Topic:2382942008-12-23T02:46:22.240ZSarah Sutterhttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/SarahSutter
We have a new curriculum coordinator/GT person in our district, and a mandate from the state that we create some kind of GT proposal for the arts (visual, music, theater, dance) K-12. The curriculum person is asking for the Fine Arts team input . . . and none of us have any GT credentials, nor has our district ever had an arts GT program. Rather than forfeit any input on the proposal, I'd love to see some examples of GT Arts programs that are working. Does anyone have one for their school or…

We're a small rural district with three buildings, 750 kids total K-12, nothing fancy, no funding of note, lots of technology access grades 6-12, three ft music teachers, three ft art teachers, and extracurricular theater at the ms and hs levels. I look forward to hearing from anyone who might have ideas. Thanks!
