Our CSE committee asked me to look for an online organizer/portal for a student. I immediately thought of PageFlakes, so I have been searching for an open source equivalent.
I finally found Posh from Portaneo, a French Company. It is still a little rough around the edges: A few items don't work consistently and French Comes up in the English version once in awhile (I'm hacking that to fix such occurrences as I find them) . It is still a little rough around the edges: A few items don't work consistently and French Comes up in the English version once in awhile (I'm hacking that to fix such occurrences as I find them) . Nonetheless, it is a nice little AJAX application that has a calendar/scheduler, to-do list, bookmarks and a very slick RSS reader among other cool things.

I think I'll use it with my class next year

I gave it an overview on my blog. Drop.iotag:www.classroom20.com,2008-03-27:649749:Topic:1232622008-03-27T20:05:52.687ZJohn Hendronhttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/JohnHendron

Some would say there’s something narcissistic about googling your name. However, it’s a good idea occasionally to see what appears on the first couple of pages of Google results.
Last week I had a nasty surprise when the first page of results from a google search for my Jaiku username returned a link to a profile page on a dating site. Although I see nothing wrong with dating sites, I should state that I am happily married and have never needed the services of the formentioned. Moreover my social networking is purely professional, I do not carry out my personal life on the internet. When I browse to the profile in question I note that although the profile picture, username and feeds are mine, the “About Me” information is invented.

There is no way to sign in to the site in order to delete the profile. Further checks reveal that other Jaiku and Twitter members have also been victims of this bogus site.

It seems that a Spanish company known for shady practice has been scraping RSS feeds from Jaiku and Twitter by way of an application for Google IG. Unfortunately neither Twitter nor Jaiku have announced this to their users.

In an attempt to prevent further “hijacking” of my information I have made my Jaiku and Twitter updates private and suggest others do the same.

To check if your feed has been hijacked type the following URLs.

I'm interested to know just how many of us have been "stung" maybe we could use group pressure to influence Jaiku and Twitter to deal with this problem. Web based RSS Readers for Elementary Studentstag:www.classroom20.com,2008-01-28:649749:Topic:1033782008-01-28T23:30:19.131ZSteve O'Connorhttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/SteveOConnor
I'd like a web-based rss reader for my elementary students. Web based readers allow access to feeds no matter what computer they are using. Unfortunately, the TOS of all the "free" hosted readers that I have encountered collect personal information; therefore, requiring users to be 13 or older (like Ning).

I'd like to provide a multi-user RSS reader by installing it on the school's linux based shared server space (or my server). I am giving rnews a test run. I will probably try Tiny Tiny RSS, once I learn to run the installation process (not a big deal--just a little different).

Any thoughts or suggestions for server side rss readers that support multiple users, are easy to use, and appealing to end users?

Thanks,
I'm planning for an upcoming science project. Students will choose a topic of their choice and then gather, share and evaluate the information they find. I 'd like a way for students to have information from the web fed to them based on their topic. For example if they chose to research "cloning" , they would be able to have the latest news and opinions fed into their reader. I remember seeing a piece of code that would allow you to feed all new content tagged with "cloning". I do see the…

Does anyone know if this is possible? or have suggestions for another way for students to have experience using RSS relating to a science topic of interest? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. I've just finished composing a resource that might be useful to you: Web 2.0 Tutorial for Educators. I wanted to create a place where everyday teachers could go to discover more about some of the popular Web 2.0 tools being used in education. Many teachers hear a lot of these buzz words but don't know where to start as far as their own classroom implementation goes.

The wiki I've created provides definitions for blogs, social bookmarks, RSS feeds and wikis. It also discusses educational benefits, classroom applications, concerns and solutions, real-world examples from teachers and tutorials to help teachers begin using these technologies. I also included some helpful videos.

I invite everyone to contribute to this resource. I'd like to see it grow and become a collaborative project. I hope you find this wiki useful as part of your school's technology professional development program.
Hi everyone,

Hope I'm not sounding dumb here, but how do you add a RSS feed (or is it a reader? or subscription?) to a blog?

I'd like to add a section to my blog that shows new posts on the student blogs so when the kids visit our class blog they can get a snapshot of what other students have written. I use blogger. Anyone know how to do that?
I have played around a little, but it seems like I'd have to add each individual subscription to the RSS feed URL "page element" and that would take forever (and when I did that it showed the title of the other blog, but none of the posts...). Am I missing something? Is there a way to share your RSS subscriptions? Has anyone set up an RSS reader for current events assignment?

Instead of a standard HS student response to this project, ie a random Google search 10 minutes before it is due, they may show more of an interest in it. My thinking is that it allows you to more control of the sources and you could go cross-curriculum. Science sources, Foreign Language sources, blogs, etc.
