<p><span><span>For this project, we created a <a title="collaborative wiki" href="http://weatheraroundtheworldproject.wikispaces.com/" target="_blank">collaborative wiki</a> where middle school teachers and students (grades 5-8) from around the world can share their weather information (including images, audio and video). From this wiki, the students will be able to learn about the different types of weather and compare weather patterns, temperatures, and precipitation.</span><span> </span></span></p>
<p><span>This will be a year long project! We will begin in late September and end sometime in late May/early June. If you decide to join the project, you will need to have either yourself or your students upload the weekly weather forecast for your area every week. </span><br/><br/><span>An example page titled <a title=""Project Example" " href="http://weatheraroundtheworldproject.wikispaces.com/Project+Example" target="_blank">"Project Example"</a> was created on our wiki to help you get an idea of what your completed project page should include.</span></p>

<p>Teachers are always looking for ways to expose their students to other children, communities and cultures from around the world. Many schools have a similar social studies curriculum in grades K-3 where they learn about urban, suburban, and rural communities. I developed a collaborative wiki as a place where teachers and students can share information (including images, audio and video) about their communities, and in the process, learn about other communities. The more people we get to join, the more communities our students get to learn about!</p>

We are starting a project on freedom in which our 4th grade students are creating 21st century freedom quilts modeled after the freedom quilts used during the Civil War in America. After the project is finished, around the middle of March, students will post their digital quilts and reflections on freedom on Voice Thread. We are looking for people to view and respond to the students projects. If you are interested or would like to know more, please let me know.

<div>The site provides help to students who typically dislike working in groups. It gives them a way to define their objectives and goals. It also allows them to break projects down into tasks, communicate to each other, schedule meetings on a shared calendar, share files and conduct polls.</div>
<div><br/></div>
<div>There is a tool for teachers to create a type of virtual classroom where they can communicate with students outside of class, share handouts, post dates to a calendar and more.</div>
<div><br/></div>
<div>I would love to know what teachers think about this, so any feedback would be much appreciated. </div>

<div>I think this site can help teachers avoid project 'disasters' as well as teach students valuable lessons in organization.</div>
