Along with Web2 inappropriate content issues, also comes Malware ( Malicious Software) threats!

Malware is a serious issue for anyone on the internet and its getting worse. Last year a NY City School District was attacked by cyber criminals and initially lost $ 3.8 Million. They got lucky and saw it happening and were able to cut losses with very fast response! That never happens!

In another case, a Chicago School District lost $300,000 to a computer virus. Everyone must also realize that Anti Virus wont protect you much anymore, in a recent study by NSS labs stated that its only about 38% effective! Look into Dynamic White listing.... It allows what users actually need and blocks other attempts to take control of your system.

Educating users to not get scammed in the first place is now more critical than ever!

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone out there would be willing to
help us out, and at the same time hopefully give your students a new experience
and possibly start a bit of a collaboration going into the future.

We are
about to conduct an inquiry into how Australian identity has been shaped by
Australian history. For this, our Grade 5 and 6 students (ages 10-12) need some
sense of what Australian identity is, and I thought that a good start might be
to get our students talking to students from around the world and identify
things that makes Australians different from students from other
nationalities.

My thought is to do this through Skype. Our school uses
Skype extensively to access outside experts in various fields, as well as link
up with other schools for online discussions. Of course, I'm not wedded to this
idea, but I think it would have great impact if it could be done. So if you have
a group of students who would like to talk about their identity to our kids,
we'd love to talk to you. We are planning on making some links in the week
starting April 12th. Some questions for you to consider...

The discussion title may sound weird to other educators who may find it interesting how hard it could possibly be to get children into sports and identifying themselves with school achievements. The sad truth in many developed countries is that more and more children are getting addicted to computer gaming, online gaming and the television. So much so that they become inhibited, trapped in virtual reality worlds which seems to be the only things that are important. Many students become detached from real-life and reacts indifferently to events happening around them. This is also taking place in Singapore.

Recently, I led a team of students to set up a school iSports channel online. A social networking forum that allows students to discuss and know more about sporting events in school. The aim is to promote the sporting spirit among them as well as build on their identification with school achievements. By harnessing web 2.0 tools, we were able to reach the student masses and they were very receptive towards this form of communication. Not only were we able to stimulate interests in the many sports co-curricular activities in school, we also boosted the morale of the school teams, even though they may not have live supporters at every single match in a national tournament, the sheer number of online support makes them feel important and proud. Our school portal also recently won a national isports media competition.
Do you have any similar experiences or ideas to share about this. Feel free to comment and any positive pointers to help us improve our isports channel is also very much appreciated! The poll question "How Many Online IDs Do You Have", is one that my fake identities and myself have been asking on and off, since we read that "MySpace Hits 100 Million Accounts" in Mashable a year ago....

Obviously the poll is just a bit of fun . However, in my "real life" I am constantly surprised by the seeming contradiction between the statistics and how few of my acquaintances/colleagues/employers even know what social sites and web2.0 are. Could the statistics be based on the multiple IDs of users like myself? If so, what, if any, are the implications?
