I'm looking to introduce a virtual field trip as part of my eighth grade Anne Frank unit that's coming up. I am thinking of having students just use her museum site to explore her hiding spot and then blogging about their reactions. I have never done a virtual field trip or had students blog in my class.

Any pointers?!

Thanks.

This presentation will outline how Castlemaine North Primary School uses technology to connect students across schools internationally and to experts beyond the school system. This presentation will focus on existing and potential opportunities for international collaboration presented by our links across and beyond schools.

Students are also linked across schools through involvement in blogging communities such as the "Writers' Club" which allows the students to have an international audience for their writing. The goal of these communities is to create ongoing relationships with schools in addition to one-off special programs that exist to link schools across the globe. The Writers' Club features projects within the site, including quadblogging. Currently there are nineteen schools from six nations who use the site to varying degrees.

Students are connected beyond schools to a team of 'virtual experts' who use our blogging site, private messaging, forums and video conferencing to support our students in their individual inquiries. At present, our students call on the virtual assistance of real-life scientists, engineers, filmmakers, graphic artists, biomechanists and historians from around the country and world to help their work go beyond the knowledge of their teacher. We are working towards extending the Writers' Club concept to a similar community based around science, where students can not only collaborate internationally, but also connect with our existing experts to work in a way that represents the present reality of scientific collaboration.

Hello everyone. I am brand new to Classroom 2.0 and am seeking advice on how to find resources for my new high school reading class. Our high school has grades 9-12 and about 240 students. I teach English I & III and Yearbook Journalism. We start school next week. The reading class will have about 25 kids, all of whom failed their 8th grade reading test or the high school STAR reading test.
Basically, I will have the freshmen twice a day and would have had the upperclassmen when they were freshmen.

Based on what I've researched online or asked around, I have come up with this possible weekly structure for this class:

Mon. -- add cross curriculum "core vocab" to the kids' vocab journals and use interactive games on the Promethean Board to practice the vocab

Tues. -- apply reading strategies to short texts [context clues, inference, main ideas/details, author's purpose]

Wed. -- go to the computer lab to search online for articles of interest, blog about certain books, practice for the reading test via PASSKEY program that our school has

Thurs. -- practice writing strategies in cooperative learning groups

Fri. -- practice fluency with a partner, do silent reading, add difficult words under "My Words" in vocab journals

So what I am needing is a source for vocab games, age-appropriate short texts (different from what we will be reading in my English I class), potential websites, blogs, and age-appropriate materials for fluency practice. Seems like everything I find is for elementary kids and maybe up to 8th graders.
Recommendation of Primary (K-2)-Focused Blogs by Teacherstag:www.classroom20.com,2011-02-16:649749:Topic:6031292011-02-16T17:53:08.977ZKimberly Allisonhttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/kallison1

I have some primary teachers in my district who are interested in finding some blogs/resources that are of particular interest to primary teachers. Can anyone recommend a blog written by a primary teacher that focuses on technology integration, lesson ideas, etc.?

Just to clarify, we're interested in teachers blogging about teaching, not teachers blogging with their students.

Thanks!
