Where we are used to navigating folders to launch software and save pieces of work, the iOS device is too limited on screen real estate. A one tap approach was developed as a solution for this.

One example of this is in the .ePub (electronic publication) format. With the proliferation of web 2.0 apps, it seems that the operating system is becoming less and less important. Most modern OS's can run most modern software, and most modern browsers can run most web apps. So does the question now shift to which hardware is best? Which "user experience" is best? Does the old "most software won't run on a Mac..." argument still hold water? Should we all switch to Ubuntu?

I would like to know who out there has used Linux OS and Open Source software in the classroom. What kinds of professional development and support have you found to be useful for the success of the program?

How far away are we from using Everex computers, freeware and online apps?tag:www.classroom20.com,2007-12-16:649749:Topic:891902007-12-16T01:41:47.123ZDerwin Kitchhttps://www.classroom20.com/profile/derwink
My questions is this:

How far away are we from schools being able to use something like Everex's $200 gOS computer and nothing else but online applications and freeware? This would drastically reduce hardware and software costs. Then increase Internet bandwidth with the extra cash.

A students supply list could be pencils, pens, 3 ring binders, account to Zoho, account to Google Apps, etc.
The reason that I bring this up is that I'm new at my school and we've recently been having a lot of tech meetings lately where I'm trying to convince the school that an 8 year rotation of computers to at least a 4 or 5 year rotation (8 years is scary I know). They keep mentioning the costs and I threw out the idea that we're not that far from cheap computers using a gOS, for example, and nothing else but online apps and freeware. They looked at me like I was nuts.

Am I? :)
