Short Session Description (one line): Social Networking to Promote Language Learning.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like): Students of this digital age strongly believe in socializing with every one and this attitude is a positive feature for promoting language learning. It is the responsibility of language teachers to tap that aspect in students and make them use it for learning the language effectively. There are many social networking sites available in the web and the three sites, which the presenter would focus upon in this presentation, are Facebook, Twitter and Blog. She would discuss the ways of exploiting these sites for enhancing communication skills among learners. Further more, she would briefly talk about her on-going study, in which the tertiary level students are involved.

I'm in the process of preparing a presentation for our school's girls day event next week. This years theme is technology. I wanted to present something on social networking. Does anyone have any ideas about presenting cyberbullying and internet safety on social networks? Also, if anyone has any suggestions on social networks for students they have used please share. Thanks for your time and responses.

Hello all,

I've been really getting into using these Ning networks. As such, I have created a Ning network to bring together AP Biology students from around the world. While I designed the Ning with students in mind I think it would also be useful for teachers.

Please check it out, join up, and share with students and colleagues. Any feedback would be great, as I am very new…

After almost 25 years of experience I have a lot of ideas for children's books. However, the process getting started and then getting someone's attention is brutal. I am wondering if teacher could get something going.

I know we all have some amazing stories to share. So, how can we do this?

Hello everyone! I came across this website while searching for sample social networking policies so I thought I would try posting my question here.

I am in the process of developing a social networking policy for my high school classroom that will specifically address the use of Twitter by students for educational purposes. Has anyone seen anything like this?

Do you really need an Enterprise LMS? Maybe not…This title of a webinar hosted by CLO Magazine caught my attention and I thought I would throw it out to you for your opinions. I think both directions have great value, just different drivers and potential benefits. So, do you really need an Enterprise LMS?
How do you know what LMS is best for your organization?
They tossed out some startling statistics large corporations (10K employees and up) have 5 or more LMS in many cases. So there must be some value to having departmental/divisional LMS, yes? Or is this the case that they are so large the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing?
For those of you who are still scratching your head about Twitter, I just posted a "Getting Started with Twitter" Screencast to my blog. It is a little long (20 minutes) - but you can always fast-forward through the boring parts.
I am curious if anyone has used ning.com or other web 2.0 to build collaboration in your building/district/site. I teach in a 5-8th building, the teachers are very isolated between wings and floors, as well we have four different lunch hours. I have been at this building 3 years and there are still teachers I don't recognize! I think ning would be an awesome way to foster more communication at our building. I am wondering if anyone has had success using social networking at your site and what worked/ didn't work.
