 ary 23rd, 2010. Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. will discuss his most recen
 t PBS project, \"Faces of America.\" In making the film, Dr. Gates tur
 ned to the latest tools of genealogy and genetics to explore the famil
 y histories of 12 renowned Americans and, in the process, discover wha
 t made America and what it means to be American. We will also be joine
 d by a representative of the Educational and Community Outreach depart
 ment at Thirteen who will provide an overview of the rich educational 
 resources that have been created to help you use the film with element
 ary, middle and high school students.\n\nFaces of America: Looking bey
 ond the African-American experience to the wider immigrant story, Prof
 essor Gates unravels the American tapestry, following the threads of h
 is guests' lives back to their earliest origins around the globe. Alon
 g the way, the many stories he uncovers — of displacement and homeco
 ming, of material success and dispossession, of assimilation and discr
 imination — illuminate the American experience. Professor Gates' gue

 ead the poem at President Barack Obama's inauguration, chef Mario Bata
